Marine Park Hair Perm: Korean Digital Perm in Brooklyn

Specialty Perms and Straightening Near Marine Park

Marine Park is a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood in southeastern Brooklyn, built around the 798-acre park that gives it its name. If you want sleek, pin-straight hair from Japanese straightening, or soft, natural waves from a Korean digital perm, Seoul Scissors operates inside Hair by Fendi at 7513 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights, west of the area, with street and metered parking nearby.

Nicole has more than 25 years behind the chair in Seoul, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. The work focuses on three things: Japanese hair straightening that holds for four to six months, Korean digital perms for soft natural waves, and cuts designed around hair density and growth pattern rather than a photograph. The goal is hair that still looks right on day three, week three, and month three — not just the day of the appointment.

Why Marine Park

Perms and Straightening for Marine Park Clients

Many clients in a quiet residential neighborhood want low-maintenance styles that still look right on a Tuesday morning, not just for a special occasion. Japanese hair straightening turns thick, wavy, or curly hair into sleek, glossy, pin-straight results, and a Korean digital perm gives soft, natural-looking waves with movement.

Perming and straightening take experience. The difference between a Japanese straightening that holds for six months and one that reverts in six weeks often comes down to solution strength, processing time, flat-iron temperature, and the stylist’s read on the hair at the moment of the strand test. Nicole has been doing this work for more than 25 years.

Seoul Scissors operates inside Hair by Fendi at 7513 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights, west of Marine Park, with street and metered parking on 13th Avenue and the surrounding residential side streets. Sheepshead Bay, Midwood, and Gravesend are also within driving distance.

Hair Type

Choosing the Best Perm Technique for Your Hair

Hair textures vary widely — from thick, wavy, or curly to fine and flat — and a perm or straightening that works beautifully on one client can damage another’s hair. Nicole evaluates density, porosity, elasticity, scalp sensitivity, and prior chemical history before recommending any technique. The goal is to match the right technique to your hair, not to push a service. A strand test during the consultation confirms compatibility before any solution is applied.

Very Dense Hair

The goal may be to create movement and remove unnecessary weight without making the ends look thin. Strategic layering and rod selection matter more than thinning.

Fine Hair

Volume magic perm or lighter rod configurations can add body without stress. The goal is to preserve weight and fullness rather than removing too much.

Color-Treated Hair

Strand test required. Single-process color, balayage, and highlights up to level 7 are typically compatible. Bleached hair at level 9 or higher is generally not a candidate.

Previously Processed Hair

Full evaluation of prior perms, straightening, and Japanese relaxers. Nicole will not perform a service that risks breakage — she will tell you directly if your hair is not a candidate.

The Stylist

A Stylist With 25+ Years of Perm Experience

Nicole has spent more than 25 years behind the chair, with experience in Seoul and Manhattan salons before opening her Brooklyn studio inside Hair by Fendi on 13th Avenue. Her work concentrates on chemical texture services — perms, Japanese straightening, and structured cuts — and on how different hair textures respond to heat, solution, and time.

The consultation matters as much as the technique. Every appointment begins with a conversation about hair history, lifestyle, and the look you actually want to live with — not just the photograph you brought in. Hair length, density, texture, previous color, and chemical history all affect what is possible. The goal is the best version of the look for you.

Questions

Questions Marine Park Clients Often Ask

Where is Seoul Scissors located relative to Marine Park?

Seoul Scissors operates inside Hair by Fendi at 7513 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights, west of Marine Park. The drive from Avenue U runs via surface streets or the Belt Parkway. Metered street parking is available directly on 13th Avenue and on the surrounding residential side streets.

Is street parking available near the salon?

Yes — metered street parking is available directly on 13th Avenue and on the surrounding residential side streets in Dyker Heights. Most clients find a spot within two blocks of the salon, particularly on weekday mornings.

How long should I plan for the full appointment?

A Japanese hair straightening appointment runs roughly 2.5 to 3 hours from consultation through final styling. Korean digital perms typically take 2.5 to 3 hours. Iron perms run 2 to 2.5 hours. Many clients from the area combine a straightening or perm with a refresh cut, which extends total chair time to about 3.5 hours. Nicole schedules one client at a time, so there is no waiting between steps.

Will the Korean perm work on color-treated or previously permed hair?

In many cases yes, but it depends on the condition of the hair shaft. Nicole performs a strand test during the consultation to assess porosity and elasticity. Hair that has been bleached to a level 9 or higher is generally not a candidate. Single-process color, balayage, and highlights up to level 7 are typically compatible. If your hair is not a candidate, Nicole will tell you directly.

Do you offer phone consultations before the first appointment?

Yes — and Nicole recommends it for first-time clients. A 15-minute phone consultation (315-333-2578) or email exchange (nicole@seoulscissors.com) covers hair history, current condition, lifestyle, and the look you’re aiming for. From there, Nicole recommends the right service and gives you an honest estimate of how long results will last in your specific hair type.

How long does a Korean digital perm hold its wave?

A properly executed Korean digital perm holds its wave pattern for 3 to 6 months, depending on hair type, density, growth rate, and how the hair is styled between washes. Coarse, dense hair often holds the wave on the longer end of that range, while finer hair may need a refresh closer to month four. The wave grows out softly, with no harsh regrowth line, so the transition from permed hair to new growth is gradual and natural-looking.

Do I have to be Asian to get a Korean perm or Japanese straightening?

No. Korean and Japanese-inspired perm and straightening techniques work on a wide range of hair types and textures. They are techniques, not ethnic categories. Nicole evaluates each client’s hair individually and recommends the technique that will produce the best result for that specific hair type.
