Looking for a Korean digital perm, Japanese hair straightening, or a Korean-inspired cut near Bensonhurst? Seoul Scissors operates inside Hair by Fendi at 7513 13th Avenue in neighboring Dyker Heights, just north of the area’s commercial core, with street and metered parking nearby.
Nicole has more than 25 years behind the chair in Seoul, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. The work centers on three things: perming and straightening that holds for three to six months, cuts designed around hair density and growth pattern rather than a photograph, and color that grows out gracefully. The goal is hair that still looks right on day three, week three, and month three — not just the day of the appointment.
A Korean digital perm gives loose, natural-looking waves that move like your own hair instead of a stiff, set curl. It works well on straight, thick, or flat hair that needs shape and lift, and it typically lasts three to six months. Nicole customizes the rod size and wave pattern to your hair and the look you want.
Men can book the Two-Block Haircut and other Korean-inspired cuts, including the comma and dandy styles. Looking to cover or blend gray? See Gray Coverage & Gray Blending.
Digital perm vs. older cold-wave perms: a cold-wave perm is processed at room temperature on hard plastic rods and tends to give a tighter, more set-looking curl. A Korean digital perm uses heated rods and a controlled process to set soft, natural waves. The waves grow out gradually with no harsh regrowth line.
Bensonhurst runs roughly from 61st Street south to 86th Street, with Bay Parkway on its eastern side and 18th Avenue as its main shopping street. Seoul Scissors is a short drive from the neighborhood, up the same 13th Avenue strip.
Perming and straightening take experience. The difference between a Korean digital perm that holds for five months and one that falls flat in five weeks often comes down to rod selection, solution strength, processing time, and the stylist’s read on the hair at the moment of the strand test. Nicole has been doing this work for more than 25 years.

Hair textures vary widely — from coarse and dense to fine and flat — and a perm that works beautifully on one client can damage another’s hair. Nicole evaluates density, porosity, elasticity, scalp sensitivity, and prior chemical history before recommending any perm technique. The goal is to match the right technique to your hair, not to push a service. A strand test during the consultation confirms compatibility before any solution is applied.
The goal may be to create movement and remove unnecessary weight without making the ends look thin. Strategic layering and rod selection matter more than thinning.
Volume magic perm or lighter rod configurations can add body without stress. The goal is to preserve weight and fullness rather than removing too much.
Strand test required. Single-process color, balayage, and highlights up to level 7 are typically compatible. Bleached hair at level 9 or higher is generally not a candidate.
Full evaluation of prior perms, straightening, and Japanese relaxers. Nicole will not perform a service that risks breakage — she will tell you directly if your hair is not a candidate.
Nicole has spent more than 25 years behind the chair, with experience in Seoul and Manhattan salons before opening her Brooklyn studio inside Hair by Fendi on 13th Avenue. Her work concentrates on chemical texture services — perms, Japanese straightening, and structured cuts — and on how different hair textures respond to heat, solution, and time.
The consultation matters as much as the technique. Every appointment begins with a conversation about hair history, lifestyle, and the look you actually want to live with — not just the photograph you brought in. Hair length, density, texture, previous color, and chemical history all affect what is possible. The goal is the best version of the look for you.

A Korean digital perm appointment runs roughly 2.5 to 3 hours from consultation through final styling. Japanese hair straightening and iron perms typically take 2 to 2.5 hours. Volume magic perms run 2 to 2.5 hours. Two-block haircuts alone take 45 to 60 minutes. Many clients coming up from 86th Street combine a perm with a refresh cut, which extends total chair time to about 3.5 hours. Nicole schedules one client at a time, so there is no waiting between steps.
In many cases yes, but it depends on the condition of the hair shaft. Nicole performs a strand test during the consultation to assess porosity and elasticity. Hair that has been bleached to a level 9 or higher is generally not a candidate. Single-process color, balayage, and highlights up to level 7 are typically compatible. If your hair is not a candidate, Nicole will tell you directly.
Yes — and Nicole recommends it for first-time clients. A 15-minute phone consultation (315-333-2578) or email exchange (nicole@seoulscissors.com) covers hair history, current condition, lifestyle, and the look you’re aiming for. From there, Nicole recommends the right service and gives you an honest estimate of how long results will last in your specific hair type.
A properly executed Korean digital perm holds its wave pattern for 3 to 6 months, depending on hair type, density, growth rate, and how the hair is styled between washes. Coarse, dense hair often holds the wave on the longer end of that range. The wave grows out softly, with no harsh regrowth line, so the transition from permed hair to new growth is gradual and natural-looking.
No. Korean and Japanese-inspired perm and straightening techniques work on a wide range of hair types and textures. They are techniques — not ethnic categories. Nicole evaluates each client’s hair individually and recommends the technique that will produce the best result for that specific hair type. If you love the look, the technique can be adapted to you.
